Top Heavy Weight Boxers From St. Louis

There are two heavy weight boxers from St. Louis. They are Leon Spinks and Michael Spinks. The first one is Leon Spinks. Leon Spinks’s professional career consisted of 26 wins, 17 losses and 3 draws. He also had 14 knockout wins in this career. He was the former World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association heavyweight champion of the world. He defeated Muhammad Ali in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. He won the gold for USA during the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada. He also got a gold medal at the 1974 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Havana, Cuba. His first fight was on January 15, 1977 in Las Vegas. In this fight, he beat Bob Smith by a knockout in five rounds. Now he lives very comfortable in Columbus, Nebraska with his son, Cory Spinks. He is trying to keep a low profile now.

The second one is Leon’s brother, Michael. His professional career consisted of being undefeated in his first 31 fights. In these fights, he beat Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson and Eddie Davis. He also won a gold for USA at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Canada. Therefore, he became the undisputed world light-heavyweight champion. Mike Tyson was the only person in Michael’s career that was able to knock him out. He was been induced into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. He is one of the top ten greatest light-heavyweights of all time. His first knockout was with Eddie Benson in 1976. This is the fight that started his 31 winning streak. He won the 1974 Light Middleweight (156 lb.) National Golden Gloves Championship and the 1976 Middleweight (165 lb.) National Golden Gloves Championship in Miami, Florida.
